Federal Court cases:


Political Crimes - Mr. Zegas recently served as co-counsel to former Newark Mayor, Sharpe James.

 Medicaid Fraud - Peter Obi. Mr. Zegas obtained an acquittal.

Air Piracy - Victor Botnick, a former high staff member of the Koch administration in New York City. Mr. Zegas won an acquittal.
Alan Zegas has obtained other acquittals at the trial level and has had numerous convictions reversed on appeal to the New Jersey Supreme Court, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.


State of New Jersey cases:


 Defense of Juveniles - The “Glen Ridge case,” involving the alleged sexual assault of a mentally retarded woman by a group of high school athletes, received not only extensive media coverage, but was also the subject of a book and a movie. Mr. Zegas represented one of the teenagers who was acquitted of all substantive sexual assault charges.

Suggestive Interrogation of Children - Mr. Zegas also participated in the case of Kelly Michaels, vindicated after serving 5 years in jail after being wrongly convicted in a nationally prominent case, involving allegations of child sex abuse.

Accused Teachers - David Ford, a teacher wrongfully accused of sexual abusing 13 of his female students. Mr. Zegas won an acquittal.


Appeals

  • Grandparent Visitation - Mr. Zegas also won an appeal for Tracy Wilde, a parent in a landmark New Jersey case, which involved New Jersey’s grandparent visitation statute.
